Giwa FC beat Plateau United 1-0, FC Abuja take pound of flesh
Mohammed Saleh scored in the first minute of the match to give Giwa an early lead, which they stoutly defended throughout the match’s 90 minutes.
It was their first time in the club's history, and also sweet revenge after Plateau United defeated them last year to lift the trophy.
Plateau United had defeated Mighty Jets Feeders 2-0 in the semi-finals, while Giwa FC defeated Mighty Jets 9-8 on penalty kicks to qualify for the final.
Both teams have thus qualified to represent the state at the national competition of the Federation Cup later in the year.
In the FCT, FC Abuja beat their 2015 conquerors FRSC FC to the title after a 4-3 penalty shootout win at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja.
The News Agency of (NAN) reports that it was another case of sweet revenge after FC Abuja had lost on penalty kicks to the Safety Strikers in the 2015 final.
This time around, FC Abuja were with the cooler nerves during the penalty shootout, after regulation time had ended goalless.
