'FG, World Bank helped reduce road traffic crashes', boss says

Last year, there was a noticeable reduction in the number of Road Traffic Crashes (RTC).

In 2015, 5,044 lives were lost to road crashes, this is a 15.88% reduction compared to the 5,996 lives lost in 2014.

The statement said human injuries as a result of road crashes reduced from 32,063 in 2014 to 27,782 in 2015, which amounts to 13.35 per cent reduction.

According to Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal of  Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), this is because of the support gotten from the Federal Government and World Bank.

"Because of increased support in 2015, total fatality reduced to 5,044 from 5,991 in 2014, while total RTC reduced to 9,031, compared to 10,380 in 2014, which amounts to 12.99 per cent RTC reduction.

World Bank supported operation of FRSC with seven units of 70-tonnes capacity heavy duty tow-trucks for removal of major road obstructions.’’

These major roads include Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano corridor, Benin-Ifon-Akure-Ilesha corridor, Mokwa-Bida-Lambata-Suleja corridor, Jos-Bauchi-Gombe corridor,Enugu-Abakaliki- Ikom—Mfum corridor and Abuja.
