FC Porto Transfer Market: Mora's Situation and the Dragons' Dual Path

André Villas-Boas's SAD stands firm on fair terms, and Roma's hesitation puts the deal in jeopardy

FC Porto and Roma moved closer to an agreement on Tuesday night for the transfer of Rodrigo Mora, but discussions over the conditions that would make the purchase option mandatory have stalled negotiations. The Dragons' stance is clear: either Roma meets the demands set by the SAD, which wants to establish easily achievable terms for the acquisition clause, or the deal could fall through entirely.

As A BOLA reported on Tuesday, FC Porto rejected all business models proposed by the Giallorossi and put forward a counter-proposal: a loan, with a €10 million fee, plus a purchase option—€40 million, bonuses, and potentially a percentage of a future sale—which could become mandatory if certain targets are met.

It is precisely this last point that is causing disagreement between the two clubs. FC Porto remains open to discussing a solution with Roma that satisfies all parties and could lead to Mora's move to the Italian capital. However, at this stage, the Giallorossi will need to re-engage with the Dragons for the deal to progress, with Jorge Mendes directly involved in the negotiations.

André Villas-Boas will not compromise on what he believes is a fair price for the transfer of one of the squad's brightest talents: a total sum approaching €50 million (or more). This, involving the aforementioned purchase option, must be accompanied by a high probability of mandatory activation, thereby securing the envisioned revenue. Therefore, the Porto leadership believes that the objectives directly linked to Roma's future acquisition of Mora cannot be based on unrealistic or difficult-to-achieve scenarios, such as winning the Serie A title, which has long eluded them.

Amidst all this, it's a given that Gasperini wants Mora in his squad. The young creative player, in turn, desires more consistent playing time, and not finding it at his current club, he views a change of scenery favorably. However, there are still significant hurdles to overcome at the negotiating table, and for now, the number 86 remains under Farioli's command, with an eye on Saturday's match against Rio Ave.

Midfielder on the radar... if Mora departs

Francesco Farioli has already informed FC Porto's management that he wants another midfielder should Rodrigo Mora's departure materialize this summer. The coach has defined the desired profile, and if the number 86 leaves, another reinforcement with characteristics similar to Froholdt's is expected to arrive at the Estádio do Dragão: physically strong and with the ability to get into the box—ideally, with finishing prowess.

In this context, Quinten Timber's name was mentioned yesterday as a target for Porto. However, information gathered by A BOLA indicates that the SAD has not made any approach to Marseille for the 25-year-old Dutch international, a former teammate of Inbeom Hwang at Feyenoord and known to Farioli from their time together in the Dutch league.

Within a tactically rigid playing system, Mora sometimes appears somewhat out of place. Thus, the Olival gem, who had inconsistent playing time in 2025/26 and doesn't want a repeat of that scenario in the new campaign, believes it might be necessary to steer his career in a different direction to avoid hindering his competitive development.

On the other hand, Rodrigo Mora will not, under any circumstances, force a move away from FC Porto, whether to Roma or any other club. Accordingly, if the attacking midfielder remains in Francesco Farioli's squad, the situation changes, and the midfield will be considered complete.
