The English Football Association (FA) has issued a statement expressing its "deep concern" over Gianni Infantino's plans to sell off the World Cup. On Tuesday, FIFA announced, after its plans were leaked to the media, that it intends to boost "football development funding" to over $10 billion (£7.5 billion) by attracting third-party investment into its tournaments, including the World Cup. The FIFA president has faced sharp criticism for his proposals to sell stakes in the World Cup, drawing the ire of fans and confederations like UEFA, who accused him of "crossing the line."

Allegations have surfaced that Infantino could personally profit millions from private investors. European confederation UEFA released a scathing statement, accusing FIFA of "crossing the line," while British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that FIFA had "sold out." Now, the FA has also voiced its position in a statement released on Wednesday.

"We were completely unaware of this proposal and lack substantial details, including its exact nature and any attached conditions. Based on the limited information, we are deeply concerned by the lack of due process and governance that has led to this point, as well as the apparent essence and principles involved. Once the proposal is shared in the full and transparent manner now promised by FIFA, we will clarify our views and comment further."
