Arsenal kept a hope of a trophy this season as they pipped Reading in a tensed Wembley affair to progress to their 19th FA Cup final, setting a new English record.

Alexis Sanchez scored twice, the second in extra-time after Reading equalised on the second half through McCleary.

The game started slowly as Arsenal looked for an opening in the Reading defence.

Mesut Ozil was at the center of everything good about Arsenal in the first half and his swift turn and pass nearly led to the opener but Danny Welbeck was upended on the edge of the Reading box midway through the half.

Ozil took the free kick from a similar position to the one from which he scored against Liverpool earlier this month but curled his effort wide this time.

Ten minuets later it was Santi Cazorla who was the provider, threading a delicious through ball between the Reading centre backs’ high line and into the space behind them.

Sanchez ran on to it pushed the ball past Reading goalkeeper Federici, but fell after the goalkeeper's hand clipped his foot.

No foul was however given.

Seven minutes from time, Arsenal broke the deadlock.

Ozil collected the ball midway inside the Reading half  and curled a pass to Sanchez in the box who stood his ground to fire Arsenal into the lead.

Reading came back into the second half fighting and forced an equaliser early thanks to the Goal Line Technology.

Pogrebnyak played in a cross and McCleary was waiting at the byline to squeeze it in.

Though Szczesny gathered it, but Goal Line Technology called it a goal much to the delight of Reading fans.

Arsenal had a few chances to win it in the second half as well as Reading who missed a golden opportunity to cause an upset.

On one occasion, their forwards outnumbered the Arsenal defence two to one but Reading could not capitalise.

In extra time, Sanchez grabbed the winner after squeezing in a after shot from the left and Reading goalkeeper Federici fumbled it into his own net.
