Everton secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ipswich in a Premier League Matchday 5 fixture, continuing their strong start to the season. Tierno Barry scored the sole goal of the game in the 11th minute. The "Tractor Boys" finished the match with ten men after Abdul Fatawu was sent off in the 67th minute. Ipswich had good spells and created enough chances to equalize, but Fatawu's dismissal in the 67th minute made their task significantly harder, while the "Toffees" squandered several opportunities to seal the win.

The hosts could have taken an early lead when Brennan Johnson received the ball in the box, evaded a defender, but shot wide from an excellent position. Just a few minutes later, Everton found the breakthrough. Following a clearance from Walton, Tarkowski struck a volley from distance, and Barry reacted swiftly to deflect the ball into the net, marking his second Premier League goal of the season.

Ipswich didn't give up and, after conceding, began to dominate possession. Julio Enciso had a chance to shoot from the edge of the box, but his effort was blocked, and Fatawu came close to an equalizer with a dangerous shot from a tight angle that Jordan Pickford managed to tip wide for a corner. In the 27th minute, the visitors were inches away from a goal when Fatawu received the ball far from the goal and attempted to chip Pickford from about 40 yards out, but the home goalkeeper recovered in time to make the save. Before halftime, both teams had more opportunities, with Ipswich nearly leveling after a cross from Fatawu to Leif Davis, but the left-back failed to get a clean strike.

After the break, Ipswich started more actively again, but Pickford made a good save from Enciso's close-range shot. In the 58th minute, Everton thought they had a second goal through Barry, who headed in a corner to the far post. However, the goal was disallowed after VAR intervention due to an offside call against Brennan Johnson, who, according to the officials, was interfering with the goalkeeper's actions. Shortly after, the situation worsened for Ipswich when Fatawu received a second yellow card and was sent off.

In the final minutes, David Moyes' men were in complete control and could have put the game to bed. Tyler Dibbling was denied by Walton, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall missed a header from an excellent position. However, Ipswich continued to push for an equalizer, and in the fourth minute of added time, Zian Fleming had a chance after a deflection in the box but couldn't direct the ball on target. Thus, Everton secured their third victory across all competitions for the week.

The "Toffees" next Premier League match after the international break is against Hull City on October 11th, followed by a home game against Chelsea on October 17th. Ipswich will also have a break until October 10th, when they host Fulham, before facing a tough away trip to Manchester City.
