Even Michael Carrick Wonders: "I Don't Know Why We Aren't Spending Like Other Clubs"

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick desires more financial backing from the club's hierarchy for new signings to keep pace with their Premier League rivals.

The "Red Devils" spent 85 million euros this summer on Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Karl Darlow, a figure surprisingly lower than newly promoted Premier League sides Coventry or Ipswich.

"We've done a great job and brought in some truly top-class players. We always want to improve. We want more, we need more, and we're constantly looking for ways to achieve that," Carrick was quoted by AFP.

Manchester United hasn't spent more than 90 million pounds on a single player in a decade, with Paul Pogba being the last acquisition of that magnitude, back when current manager Carrick was still a fixture in the starting XI.

"We have to make the most of the current situation, but at the same time, we must constantly progress and push all boundaries to start winning again. I don't know why we aren't spending as much as other clubs, but we're trying to do everything in our power," added the 45-year-old coach, who will be able to count on Marcus Rashford for the new season.

The 28-year-old English international spent last season on loan at Barcelona, but the "Blaugranas" opted not to exercise their option for a permanent transfer.
