A rematch of last season's EuroLeague final saw a different outcome this time around. Real Madrid's basketball team defeated Olympiacos in the SuperCup final of Europe's elite competition in Abu Dhabi, with a final score of 93:89. The Madrid side exacted a measure of revenge against the Piraeus Reds for their loss in the battle for the Old Continent's championship, though it's unlikely to offer much solace. After all, being crowned EuroLeague champions is an entirely different dimension.

If nothing else, this victory over Olympiacos will serve as a strong prelude for Real Madrid ahead of the new season, with the EuroLeague set to tip off next week.

As for the game itself, the crowd in Abu Dhabi (which, incidentally, will also host this season's Final Four) was treated to an excellent basketball spectacle, a true clash of European giants.

The game remained tight throughout; Real consistently pulled ahead, dictating the pace and forcing the Greeks to chase, while Olympiacos battled back, fighting tooth and nail for a victory, only to fall short in the end. The winner, as it turned out, was decided by Andres Feliz, who hit a floater with seven seconds left on the clock to secure the trophy for Real.

Timothy Luwawu-Cabarrot led Real in scoring with 12 points. Jaime Pradilla, Mikael Jantunen, and Feliz each contributed 11 points, while Theo Maledon added 10. Facundo Campazzo stood out with nine assists, and Walter Tavares was named the tournament MVP. Tavares recorded six points and seven rebounds in the final, but his MVP award was primarily earned through his dominant performance in the semi-final against Dubai (20 points and seven rebounds). This is excellent news for Real, considering Tavares missed last season's Final Four and had been sidelined for an extended period due to injury.

For Olympiacos, Sasha Vezenkov shone with 22 points. Evan Fournier scored 14, Donta Hall 13, and Jean Montero 12 points.

With this victory, Pedro Martinez claimed his first trophy at the helm of the Madrid side, having joined Real this summer. The initial outlines of his philosophy are already visible in Real's play, making it clear that the Kings will be one of the fastest and most dangerous teams in transition in the EuroLeague next season.

Finally, it's worth noting that the game – despite its limited competitive significance, serving more as a final tune-up before the EuroLeague season – was not without its share of friction and tension. Bartzokas remained Bartzokas, and it wouldn't be him without picking up a technical foul. Verbal altercations also broke out between Feliz and Vezenkov, as well as Campazzo and Dorsey.

As a reminder, the new EuroLeague season kicks off next week. Real Madrid visits Dubai on September 24th, while Olympiacos travels to face Baskonia on the same day.
