EuroLeague bids farewell to Dule Vujošević: His legacy will live on every court
The EuroLeague joins the Serbian and global basketball community in mourning the passing of coaching legend Duško Vujošević, who died at the age of 67.
Vujošević dedicated the majority of his illustrious coaching career, spanning over five decades, to Partizan. He first joined the club as an assistant coach in the mid-1980s before leading Partizan to the European Champions' Cup Final Four in 1988 as head coach. Across four separate stints at the helm, he guided the club to numerous successes, including a return to the EuroLeague Final Four in 2010.
Under Vujošević's leadership, Partizan secured 12 national championship titles, the 1989 Korac Cup trophy, and six Adriatic League titles.
European and Serbian basketball has lost one of its most passionate minds and dedicated mentors. Duško Vujošević was a man of basketball, a mentor, and a symbol of integrity and devotion to the game. His influence shaped generations of players and coaches, leaving an indelible mark on our sport. On behalf of the EuroLeague, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of learning from him. His legacy will live on every court, in every team, and in every young player who continues his love for basketball. - EuroLeague President Dejan Bodiroga
Beyond Partizan, Vujošević coached a long list of clubs across Europe, including OKK Beograd, Crvena Zvezda, Radnički Beograd, and Mladost Zemun in Serbia; Oximesa Granada in Spain; Brescia, Olimpia Pistoia, and VL Pesaro in Italy; CSKA Moscow in Russia; Limoges CSP in France; and U-BT Cluj-Napoca in Romania.
Vujošević also made his mark on the international stage, serving as head coach for three national teams: Yugoslavia (U-18), Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among his early coaching triumphs was leading Yugoslavia to a gold medal at the 1988 FIBA European Junior Championship. In recognition of his impact on the game, his peers voted him the recipient of the 'Alexander Gomelsky' EuroLeague Coach of the Year award for the 2008/09 season.
A minute of silence will be observed before today's games and those of Round 37 to honor his memory and exceptional legacy.
The death of the celebrated coach was confirmed by journalist Petar Peca Popović for Sportal. Duško Vujošević had an impressive biography.
