Erik ten Hag warns Manchester United could face Premier League relegation

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has warned that the threat of relegation from the Premier League is very real for the Red Devils. The 56-year-old Dutch tactician endured a mixed spell at Old Trafford, despite lifting both the FA Cup and the League Cup during his tenure.

Although the 20-time English champions secured a return to Champions League football under Michael Carrick, they currently find themselves perilously close to the drop zone. The Manchester giants have not played outside England's top flight since 1974.

"In the Premier League, such a scenario is completely possible because every opponent is exceptionally strong. Every team has a quality squad and a good manager. If you find yourself in a bad position and get caught in a vicious circle, things can become very difficult," the manager said in an interview with ESPN.

Ten Hag also reflected on what he achieved during his time in charge of the club.

"I think we did a fantastic job at United, more than good. We could hardly have achieved more. Before we took over, the club had gone six years without silverware. Look at where things stand now. We played at Wembley six times, reached two FA Cup finals, won two trophies, and finished third. Our performances were very good, and at times we played brilliant football. Of course, we had difficult spells, but when you hit a slump in the Premier League, it immediately becomes a major issue," the Dutchman added.

Following a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, Manchester United sit 17th in the table with seven points—level with Crystal Palace in the relegation zone.
