Players refuse to board plane to Confederation Cup game over unpaid allowances

The players are claiming to be owed N405, 000 ($1000) each for travelling allowances for a CAF Champions League game in Algeria.

The squad was scheduled to depart the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Thursday, April 13 but the players refused to board the flight.

They refused pleas by top officials of the Enugu State Government and insist that they must be paid before they board the flight.

According to SCORE Nigeria, the players have headed to their respective homes.

Enugu Rangers had a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to ZESCO United in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Their former coach Imama Amapakabo was sacked after the game.

Amapakabo afterwards revealed that players were forced to forfeit the rewards that were pledged to them after winning the Nigeria professional Football League (NPFL) title.

Although the club confirmed that the players have received the rewards, Amapakabo claimed that the pledges were never fulfilled.

The coach revealed that the players were forced to sign a document which stipulated that they received the pledges and that they have been given a race.

This claim was made in an interview on the daily morning sports show on Lagos Talks Radio.
