Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is predicted to remain with Red Bull beyond the 2026 season, according to Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz, who analyzed the driver market ahead of the summer break.

Verstappen is under contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028, but a clause allows him to terminate it prematurely this summer. The challenge for Verstappen is the lack of available seats at other top teams, with Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari having repeatedly stated their intention to retain their current drivers.

“I believe McLaren is Max's only real option right now,” Kravitz explained. “However, McLaren is in a strong position and, at the same time, very content with their current driver lineup. Lando Norris was among the fastest, if not the fastest, at Spa last weekend. Had he not started 13th due to an engine penalty, he would have been battling Antonelli and Leclerc for the win.”
“Oscar Piastri has his own challenges, but he's happy with the team and works harmoniously with the crew. So, there's no room at McLaren. That's why I think Max will stay at Red Bull.”

Kravitz also clarified that any potential opportunity for Max to move to Mercedes has now vanished, not least because Toto Wolff has made it clear he is no longer interested in the Dutchman.

“It's clear that Mercedes is very pleased with Antonelli,” the reporter stated. “They believe he is as quick as Verstappen. That might be a bold claim, but it's their conviction. Furthermore, Mercedes sees George Russell as a strong teammate for Antonelli.”
