England's elimination from the 2026 World Cup at the hands of Argentina was a particularly intense experience for Kelci-Rose Bowers, the English girlfriend of Argentine player Marcos Senesi.
On the eve of the match, Kelci-Rose had openly declared her support for the Argentine national team. She watched every game sporting the Albiceleste jersey, but last night in Atlanta, she opted for a neutral-colored tracksuit, acknowledging her divided emotions. She even posted a video contemplating, "I wonder if my relationship will survive this game..."
England had initially taken the lead, with Anthony Gordon scoring in the 55th minute, only for Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez to complete a dramatic comeback in the 85th and 90+2 minutes, respectively.
The relationship between Kelci-Rose Bowers and the 29-year-old defender, who transferred to Tottenham just before the World Cup, began when he was playing for Bournemouth's men's team and she for their women's side.
After the final whistle, Bowers shared her mixed feelings on social media.
"Well, that just happened… Of course, it was a crazy experience with so many mixed emotions, one I won't forget. So proud of how far England got and, of course, my partner for making it to the World Cup final. See you in New York," she wrote on Instagram. In another post, she simply added: "Proud of my country."
Senesi received a last-minute call-up to the Argentine squad, with the news arriving while the couple was on holiday in Ibiza, a moment Bowers also shared on social media.
