He takes over from Victor Edoror who was impeached on Monday, October 22, following allegations of corruption levelled against him.

There was pandemonium at the Edo State House of Assembly as security operatives shot sporadically into the air to disperse supporters of the deputy speaker who was impeached as they were protesting the decision taken by the House.
