Despite contracting Ebola in Sierra Leone, British nurse, William Pooley is excited to be back in the disease-ravaged country.
Pooley got infected while working with patients and was flown back to the UK to receive treatment at London's Royal Free Hospital.
He said that there is a "real emergency" in Sierra Leone and that he is "delighted" to be back on the front line, BBC reports.
The nurse had expressed his desire to return to work ever since he recovered and was only waiting to get a new passport to enable him travel as his last one was burnt after he tested positive to the disease.
Pooley said:
"I would like to once again thank the team at the Royal Free Hospital and the RAF who provided me with such excellent treatment and support.”
"But the real emergency is in West Africa, and the teams out there need all the support we can give them - I am now looking forward to getting back out there and doing all I can to prevent as many unnecessary deaths as possible."
Pooley also told The Guardian:
" ... I am excited to get back out there. I want to get back to work"
He will resume his duties at the isolation unit of the Connaught Hospital in Freetown, the nation's capital, on Monday, October 20.
The current Ebola outbreak has claimed almost 4500 lives with Sierra Leone accounting for a bulk of the casualties.
