Zenit has endured a highly turbulent season, initially replacing Aleksandar Sekulić as head coach before appointing Dejan Radonjić.
However, the former Crvena Zvezda coach also departed Russia, leaving the coaching position vacant.
Nevertheless, Zenit has already identified a new coaching candidate for next season: Duško Ivanović. The experienced tactician is currently in negotiations with the Russian team, despite not having had a perfect season himself.
Ivanović was at the helm of Virtus, where he initially achieved solid results in the EuroLeague, but a dip in form followed, prompting Bologna to decide it was time for a change. Ivanović was succeeded by Serbian coach Nenad Jakovljević, who also exited in the Italian championship semifinals.
Ivanović is in contact with the Russian club and is on the verge of securing a new engagement, his first outside the EuroLeague since the 2018/2019 season when he coached Beşiktaş. Ivanović had previously worked in Russia a year before Beşiktaş, leading Khimki.
