DSTV has hiked subscription rates with claims that the increase was necessitated by business operational costs such as devaluation of the naira, channel and satellite costs.

The company’s Communication, Manager Philip Wahome, shed more light on this:

“In determining a price increase, Multichoice takes into account many factors including the impact on the subscriber, current inflation and efficiencies effected within the company that may offset the necessity for a price increase. Unfortunately, it is necessary annual basis due to rising costs to the business. Our pricing reflects the cost of doing business and the necessary return on capital in order to ensure a world class, reliable and sustainable pay television service”.

A lot of people are not taking this new increase with enthusiasm and most have even threatened to boycott or even stop using the service for good.

Whatever reason(s) DSTV may have proffered for this action, consumers seem not to be buying it judging by people's reactions on social media.
