NDLEA arrests 66 suspects in Ondo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency boss revealed that some of the arrested suspects are undergoing rehabilitation through counselling. This was part of the agency's efforts to combat drug trafficking.

Mr. Mohammed Sokoto, the commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has revealed that sixty-six suspects have been arrested by the agency on charges of drug trafficking.

Sokoto, who spoke on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, in Akure, said twenty-two of the suspects have been charged and convicted at the court of law.

He added that seized 1,348.62 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa within the mentioned timeline.

Due to the hard work of the NDLEA, there has been a reduction in the case of drug trafficking in the country.

In addition, some people are undergoing rehabilitation and counselling, in a bid to set them on the right part.

“We have no fewer than 23 people undergoing counselling, and seven have been rehabilitated.”

“This command has destroyed 36.7 tonnes of cannabis at a farmland. Our campaign against drug abuse and trafficking in the state is yielding positive results”, he stated.
