There’s a palpable shift within the music industry. Previously, when one thinks of music making and stardom, the singers and rappers get all the acclaim and stardust. But slowly, within the last four years, we have seen a steady rise in recognition of DJs.

Why this is happening is easy to decipher. Nigeria is steadily evolving into a party nation, and DJs are at the centre of it all. It is common sense that we love the guy who gives us music to dance and have fun during our party. Mixing that feeling, with immense packaging and media utilisation, has made a select number of these guys popular beyond their imagination.

Enter DJ Xclusive. The young pretty boy is regarded as one of the new brands of classy disc jockeying in the country, and has amassed dedicated fans and social media influence. He has released a new album, , which will hit retail stores and vendors today.

It has taken Xclusive two years to hit his current height. Systematically recruiting the best of Nigerian entertainers to make music for him, he has carved a niche, and grown his influence. Think of Xclusive, and his super singles will come to mind; ‘Pangola ft Timaya, ‘Jeje’ ft Wizkid, ‘Ibebe’ ft Olamide, ‘Jam it’ ft 2face Idibia, Timaya…the list goes on. The culmination of this music, is the new album.

To usher in the new LP, generate goodwill and promotion, Xclusive put together an album launch party, which in many ways showcased his super powers and influence. Almost everyone who mattered in the industry was in attendance to show support.

As anticipated, the party lived up to its billing. In an industry which favors empty hype over substance, DJ Xclusive’s all-white party stands out as all that was promised, coming to life. The wine, women and alcohol were in abundance, superstar performances were ‘on fleek’, and the music which was masterminded by the man of the hour, was worthy of paradise.

The only part of the affair which was painful to everyone, me included, was that the night had to end. It was meant to last forever. We were meant to be ‘turnt’ forever.

As the new album rolls through Nigeria, ready to be adored bought and listened, the power of DJ Xclusive will grow in leaps and bounds. People all over will marvel at the talent and skill of the man. And barriers to disc jockeying within the country will be slowly overcome.
