In an interview with “DLLS Mavs,” Nowitzki revealed he has spoken with Ujiri about a potential return to the Mavericks.
- Everyone knows I stepped away for a while. There were things being done that I didn't agree with, so I simply distanced myself from the franchise. However, I've known Masai for a long time. We've already discussed what might happen in the future, and he clearly wants me to be a part of the Mavericks again - Nowitzki explained in detail.
A long shot...
The Mavericks legend clarified that discussions about a renewed collaboration are still in their early stages, highlighting his current commitments as an analyst and FIBA ambassador.

- I think all of this is still very early and fresh. Of course, I have my job as an analyst, as well as obligations on the FIBA Board, which requires a lot of travel. So, there's nothing concrete in the near future, but I'm a Maverick forever.
Nowitzki hinted at the possibility of taking on a management role within the club in the future, should an official return materialize.
- I'd love to be there, and perhaps one day become more involved and have an impact at some point, but it will be difficult for me... We'll see what the future holds, but I always wish them all the best and, of course, I follow the team closely.
