Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has revealed he expects to return to action "in a few weeks" after undergoing surgery for an injury sustained during Saturday's 2-0 Premier League win over Everton.
Reports suggest the 34-year-old Argentina international suffered a fractured jaw following a clash of heads with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the second half at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Martinez received medical treatment on the pitch for eight minutes before being carried off on a stretcher. He was taken to hospital, with manager Xabi Alonso later confirming that the shot-stopper had suffered a concussion.
On Sunday, Martinez took to social media to post an update alongside a picture of himself in a hospital gown.
"Thank you all for the messages. The surgery went well.
The most important thing is that we won and kept a clean sheet. Back in a few weeks," the Argentine wrote.
Mike Penders, who replaced Martinez to make his Premier League debut, is now expected to step in as the starter for at least Chelsea's next three fixtures.
The London club are set to face Tottenham and Manchester United in the league, with an away trip to Liverpool in the League Cup sandwiched in between.
The 21-year-old Penders was signed from Belgian side Genk in 2024 in a deal worth £17 million.
