Decision Made: Carrick Handed More Time at Manchester United

Michael Carrick will remain as Manchester United manager for the time being and is set to take charge of Saturday's Premier League trip to Chelsea, as reported simultaneously across the British media. The news comes as a major surprise, with the former midfielder widely expected to be sacked following defeat to Bournemouth, which came on the heels of a disastrous 4-1 thrashing by Como. The Red Devils are winless in their last eight matches across all competitions, having registered just one Premier League win this season to sit 16th, only a point above the relegation zone.

Directors Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox have been locked in talks at Carrington since yesterday, with co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer, and Avram Glazer also taking part in discussions. Carrick arrived at the training ground this morning to oversee the first team's session, with his future at the club hanging in the balance throughout the day.

Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann, and Antonio Conte had been touted as the leading contenders to succeed Carrick, with Howe heavily favored by the English press. Reports revealed that United would have to pay Newcastle around £3 million in compensation to secure his appointment.

While Carrick has survived for now, United face a demanding run of fixtures. After visiting Stamford Bridge, they host Roma and Aston Villa ahead of the international break—a period often used by clubs to make managerial changes. Following the break, the Red Devils travel to face Liverpool.

Sources suggest United's hierarchy are not entirely convinced by the alternatives currently available on the market, which has played a significant part in Carrick being granted a stay of execution.
