Celebrated African music icon D’banj turns a year older today. Thedecorated musicianhas come a long way in the industry from his period at Mo’Hits to owning his one music label DB records.
In the spirit of Throwback Thursday trend, here are five of the pop star’s classic songs from his time with Mo’Hits.
Tongolo – This was D’banj’s first hit single under Mo’Hits yet the song and its accompanying visuals feel like it was done yesterday.This song birthed the popular slang he is known for – ‘Koko’ which gave him the alias ‘Kokomaster’ and went ahead to commercialise the word from koko mobile to koko garri, etc.
Mobolowowon – This was another runaway hit track which resonated well with fans. From the relatable lyrics to the catchy sounds, it was a classic.
Why me – Both young and old loved this tune because of its catchy chorus and one-of-a-kind video among other reasons. It was generally a feel good song.
Igwe – This was a party favourite anthem loved by not only the easterners where the song was inspired from but every other region of Nigeria and beyond.
Gbono– 'Gbono feli feli' was an anthem with a catchy phrase and top notch production from Don Jazzy seeing the singer take pride in his capabilities as an entertainer.
