Former England and Portsmouth goalkeeper, David James filed for and was declared bankrupt in May 2014 despite reported earnings of £20m in a playing career that spanned 26 years and cut across some of the biggest English clubs.

James 44, who doubles as manager and player for Indian Super League club, Kerala Blasters had his football memorabilia sold off in an auction by Hilco in Kent.

An England shirt he wore in their 1-0 win over Argentina in a group F clash at the 2002 World Cup went for £672: A Liverpool Jersey he used during his time at with the Kops during his 1992-1999 stay was sold for more than £160 while the one at Portsmouth fetched him £480.

Other items belonging to the ex-international sold at the auction include; an unused chopper bike, a chainsaw, an exercise bicycle, a synthesiser, a 'I Love NY' mug and three flat screen televisions.
