Conor McGregor: I'll Be Back for the Last Fight of My UFC Contract

Conor McGregor's return at UFC 329 ended in disaster, yet the former two-division champion appears undeterred. Following his main event loss to Max Holloway on Saturday, McGregor has remained active on social media, updating the public on his condition. The Irishman, fighting for the first time since 2021, suffered a leg injury that brought his rematch with Holloway to an end just 69 seconds in.

After the bout, McGregor released a statement expressing regret over the outcome and denying that the result was due to a pre-existing injury. On Monday, McGregor posted a new statement on Instagram. In it, he wrote that the next step is surgery, though the exact nature of the injury has not yet been specified. He then intends to complete the final fight of his UFC contract.

"Everything is working out for my good," McGregor wrote. "All things are possible for me because I believe. Surgery. Pre-hab. Return to martial arts training. New experience. Final fight of the contract."

McGregor, who turns 38 on Tuesday, stepped into the Octagon for the first time since breaking his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His return to competitive action had been repeatedly delayed. Among the main reasons was another injury in 2024, which scuttled his planned bout against Michael Chandler – his opposing coach on The Ultimate Fighter 31.

Numerous other factors have also sidetracked his fighting career. These include a civil court ruling finding McGregor liable for sexual assault – a process that concluded in November 2024; his peculiar attempt to run for president in his native Ireland, which never gained traction; as well as pursuing other business ventures, including acquiring a stake in BKFC.
