Complete Farce: Vienna to Play Partizan and an Austrian League Match at the Exact Same Time!
A truly bizarre situation has emerged. This week, Vienna is set to play on the road in Belgrade, but also in Kufstein.
They take on Partizan in the ABA League at 8:00 PM, while also facing the Towers in the Austrian Superliga starting at 7:00 PM.
The Adriatic League squad is led by head coach Dragan Bajić, while official stats list Igor Dimitrov in charge of the domestic league outfit.
The club from the Austrian capital faced similar scheduling headaches last season, although those games were played back-to-back rather than on the exact same day.
At the time, the club announced that their younger players would feature in domestic league matches.
"For our club, competing in the ABA League represents a huge sporting opportunity and an honour, but also a major logistical challenge. Since managing player workload across both competitions is unsustainable, we will deliberately rely on our youth setup and young Austrian talent in the domestic league. These players will have the chance to gain valuable experience at the highest domestic level—with the clear goal of taking on key roles in both the ABA League squad and the Austrian national team in the future," read the club's 2025 statement.
Now, with a third competition—the EuroCup—added to the calendar, their schedule is even more congested.
