Team Nigeria Athletes Cry Out Over Delay In Preparations
The Nigerian delegation to the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games may yet suffer delay in their preparations to the Games.
In less than 25 days to the lighting of the torch at the Glasgow Stadium, Team Nigeria athletes are yet to begin preparations to the second biggest multi-sports meet in the World which holds between July 23 and August 3.
Since appearing for the first time in 1950, Nigeria has never missed out of the event but this recent turn off in the late preparation of Team Nigeria, owing to the non-release of funds for camping ahead of the task in Glasgow.
One Athelte cried out: “We are in a state of hopelessness because we do not know where we stand as far as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is concerned. It is a thing of shame that no athlete has been sent on training tour for the Games. We fear that this may be our worst outing in the last 20 years”
Nigeria’s best outing in the Commonwealth Games was in back in 1994 when the City Of Victoria, Canada hosted.
This may yet become the worst outing for the Nigerian contingents as they face strong oppositions in the games.
“We are talking out now because we do not want them to blame us if we fail in Scotland. Our administrators are the ones preparing the ground for us to fail as they have kept us in limbo up till now,” another Team Nigeria contingent added.
