Colombia's national team coach, Néstor Lorenzo, praised his players for their defensive discipline in the 1-0 victory over Ghana, which secured their place in the World Cup's round of 16. The Argentinian manager highlighted the crucial role of his defenders, who pushed high up the pitch, allowing much of the action to unfold in the opposition's half.
"After creating several chances and not converting them, I liked how we defended. I appreciate the fact that we didn't suffer much, aside from the opponent's obvious opportunities," Néstor Lorenzo explained after the match.
The coach clarified that captain James Rodríguez was substituted at halftime not due to injury, but for "tactical" reasons.
Lorenzo anticipates a tough round of 16 clash against Switzerland in Vancouver on Tuesday, citing the quality of the Swiss players: "They are very disciplined, but they also have very good players from the midfield forward. They play very well. It will be a very tough match."
