Benfica announced on Wednesday the signing of Alessandro Circati, a 22-year-old central defender. The Australian international joins from Parma in a deal worth €18 million, with an additional €2 million possible in bonuses, and has signed a contract until 2031.
The Australian international arrived in Lisbon this morning, underwent medical and physical examinations, and formalized his commitment to the Eagles alongside Rui Costa, Benfica's president.
"It's an honor, a privilege; I'm over the moon and couldn't be happier. I believe this is a reward for many years of hard work. I'm thrilled to be here and can't wait to play for Benfica," the player began, speaking to BTV in his first words as a new signing for the Reds.
"I think I'm very versatile; I can play any role as a center-back. You can put me in a back three or a back four. I believe I'm a very aggressive player; I like to attack and try to maintain possession, dictating the pace of the game when we have the ball," Circati described himself.
Regarding adapting to Portuguese football, he is aware of the challenge. "I know it will take some time, but I'll try to make it as quick as possible, with the help of my teammates and staff. But I'm sure I'll fit in well."
"Yes, I can't wait [to play at Estádio da Luz]; I just looked at it now, it's incredible, and I'm really excited to play here. To all Benfica fans: I can't wait to play for you and win as many titles as we can," concluded the Australian international.
Circati arrived in Lisbon on Wednesday morning, where he had already spoken about his new adventure.
Last season, Alessandro Circati made 33 appearances and scored one goal for Parma.
