News sources say the singer has left the label which is co-run by popular rapper Illbliss, after the expiration of her contract. The singer was signed by Capital Hill Music in 2011 on a 5-year record, management and publishing deal, and she has failed to release an album during that time.

Her deal reportedly expired at the end of February 2016, and the singer took the decision to not chase a renewal and walk away.

A source close to the label revealed to Pulse that the singer is of the belief that she has grown considerably to a stage where she can choose the direction her career is headed, and that inspired her contract non-renewal stance.

“Her contract expired. Her contract was supposed to have expired in February, and Chdinma has gotten to a point where she can work independently” the source said.

“She has grown, she has matured, so she needs to take her career in a direction of her own. It is only normal that she would want to do that.”

Chidinma rose to stardom in 2010 after winning the third season of MTN Project Fame West Africa. Following the release of the music video for her ‘Emi ni baller’ single, she became the first female musician to peak at number 1 on the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart.

Chidinma’s official twitter handle still contains links to Capital Hill Music, with booking numbers and email connecting directly will Capital Hill Music.

Pulse reached out to reps of Capital Hill Music/The Goretti Company, but could not get a direct response. Label executives say a public statement addressing the situation will be made public ‘soon’.

Pulse also reached out to Chidinma for comments, but at the time of this report, there has been no response.
