Chelsea Avoids Points Deduction, Receives Less Severe Penalty

English football club FC Chelsea has been fined £10 million (approximately €11.76 million) and handed a conditional two-window transfer ban after admitting to breaches of agent regulations, the English Football Association (FA) announced.

The English giants faced the threat of a six-point deduction, but this was ultimately replaced by a transfer ban. The FA confirmed on Friday that sanctions would be imposed on the West London club, which admitted to 74 breaches of FA regulations concerning agents, dealings with intermediaries, and third-party player investments. The club's new owners themselves reported the violations to football authorities in 2022, precisely when they were acquiring the club from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

A six-point suspension was initially imposed by an independent commission that first heard the case, but the club appealed the decision. The appeals committee instead replaced the points deduction with a conditional transfer ban spanning two windows. Chelsea had previously reached sanction agreements with the Premier League and UEFA regarding these matters.
