Tiote on Monday, June 5 died after collapsing due to suspected heart attack during a training session with his club Beijing Enterprises in China.

On Thursday, June 15, his body arrived his home country where he will be finally laid to rest.

Manchester City forward Wilfried Bony and a host of former teammates of Tiote with Ivory Coast national team carried the casket on their shoulders as they made their way out of the airport.

Bony wore a t-shirt which had Tiote’s face on it.

President of the Ivorian Football Federation (IFF) Augustin Sidy Diallo and former national team coach Herve Renard were in attendance.

A memorial service has been held for the late midfielder in China which his former Newcastle United teammate Papiss Cisse attended.

Cisse could not hide his tears at the service to honour his former teammate.

Tiote made 55 appearances for Ivory Coast and was part of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning side.

He played for the likes of Anderlecht, RodaJC, Twente and NewcastleUnited.
