Charlotte Without Star Player in Play-In Final? NBA Launches Investigation into LaMelo Ball /VIDEO/
The Hornets secured their spot in the NBA play-in final last night, defeating Miami 127-126 on their home court. However, LaMelo Ball's stellar performance was overshadowed by a controversial play that could lead to his suspension ahead of the decisive playoff qualification game.
Ball finished the game with 30 points, ten assists, and five rebounds. Early in the second quarter, he was involved in an incident that led to an injury for the opposing team's star player, Bam Adebayo.
Following a contested play under the basket, the Charlotte guard fell to the floor and then pulled Miami's center by the leg. Adebayo landed awkwardly, sustaining a back injury that forced him to exit the game. This incident sparked considerable debate, with Florida coach Erik Spoelstra sharply criticizing the referees post-game for not adequately penalizing Ball.
"He should have been ejected for that! There's no place for such actions in basketball. I don't find it 'cute' or funny. It was a foolish, dangerous play, and it took our best player out of the game. I'm not looking for excuses, but this is a disgrace. He needs to be punished; these tricks and tripping tactics have no place in this league," the Miami coach stated.
According to the latest reports, the NBA will thoroughly review the controversial play to determine if additional disciplinary action against Ball is warranted. A decision is expected very soon, before Charlotte's next game on Friday.
LaMelo could potentially miss the crucial playoff qualification game, where Charlotte will face the winner of the Philadelphia 76ers - Orlando Magic matchup.
