Celta Vigo's opening La Liga fixture against Osasuna has been postponed due to a fungal infection affecting the pitch at their Balaídos stadium, the Spanish club announced. Celta was scheduled to host Osasuna on Sunday, but the match was called off following an agreement between both clubs and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), after a technical inspection by La Liga. A new date has already been set, with the game now slated for August 27th.
The inspection revealed that a fungal infection had damaged the Balaídos turf, and adverse weather conditions had hampered recent recovery efforts, rendering the pitch unplayable.
"La Liga, in coordination with both clubs and the RFEF, has agreed to postpone the match between Celta and Osasuna, scheduled for next Sunday at Abanca Balaídos, due to a problem affecting the stadium's pitch, which is currently unfit for football," read a statement from the league.
