Celta Vigo finally secured their first victory of the season on their eighth attempt, delivering a resounding 5-0 thrashing to Santander at home in a La Liga matchday seven fixture. Prior to this dominant performance, the Galician side had recorded two losses and four draws in the league, alongside a defeat in the Europa League.
Celta established their winning margin with two goals in the first half and three after the break. Hugo Gonzalez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 31st minute, and Barcelona academy product Ilaix Moriba doubled the lead in the 43rd with a powerful long-range strike.
In the second half, Miguel Roman extended the lead to 3-0 in the 69th minute with another precise shot from outside the box. Pablo Duran then made it 4-0 in the 78th minute, before adding his second and Celta's fifth goal in stoppage time.
For Santander, this marks their fourth defeat in La Liga and their second within a week, following a humiliating 7-2 loss to Barcelona just days earlier.
Following the international break, Celta will travel to face Elche on October 11th, while Santander will host Valencia on the same day.
