Carrick confident he can turn things around at Manchester United as Conte addresses rumours
United's last victory came on 10 September in their Champions League opener, cruising past Azerbaijani side Sabah 4-0. Since then, they have gone seven games without a win, marking their worst winless run since 2015.
"I think it's pretty clear how we're all feeling. My job in this position is to lead. I'm responsible for what happens on the pitch, who we are as a team, how we look, and how we feel. Conversations are taking place to get the players in good spirits and well-organised so we deliver a strong performance on Sunday," he said during Friday's press conference. When asked if he was sure the Red Devils could turn the situation around, he replied: "One hundred per cent, yes."
Conte dismisses speculation
Following a string of poor results, the British media have begun to speculate about his future. The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday that former Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann is among the potential candidates. Italian outlets have also linked Antonio Conte, who managed Napoli until the summer, with the post. However, the Italian tactician has firmly denied the rumours.
"My name has been linked with many clubs, but no talks are currently at an advanced stage. After a great and successful spell at Napoli, I will take the necessary time to consider how and when I return to management," he wrote on social media.
Italian media had claimed Conte had already set out his conditions, including transfer policy and salary demands, should United decide to replace Carrick.
"These reports have no basis in reality, as there is currently no concrete reason for such evaluations. If a tangible opportunity arises, there will be time to discuss things with the club in question and jointly assess the terms of an agreement, taking into account the needs of both parties as well as the approach that defines my work as a coach. Until then, any assumptions regarding my demands and future remain mere speculation and cannot be treated as fact," news agency DPA quoted the 57-year-old as saying.
United return to Premier League action on Sunday against Bournemouth, who sit just a single point behind them.
