Michael Carrick is adamant he does not feel like a manager with just two games left in charge of Manchester United. The tactician admitted his long-term future beyond the season remains uncertain, but stressed that his focus is entirely on the task at hand and steering the Red Devils out of their current slump. United sit 17th in the Premier League and are winless in their last nine matches across all competitions. In the Champions League, an opening victory was followed by back-to-back defeats, including a 4-1 thrashing by Como last week, ahead of tomorrow's clash with another Italian side in Roma.
"I can't wait for tomorrow's game. That is all I'm focused on. Whatever happens after that will happen, whichever way it goes," Carrick insisted, refusing to let speculation over his future distract from the team's preparations.
The United boss believes his squad possesses the quality to turn their fortunes around, but urged his players to deliver immediate results. "I know what we are capable of as a team and as a group. We've shown it in spells and moments, just like in our last game. We were in a very good position at half-time against Chelsea. We know what we can do, we're close, but we have to produce it on the pitch quickly. We have two huge games this week—a great opportunity to go on the front foot and enjoy a big night," he said.
Carrick also defended the squad's mentality, dismissing concerns over dressing-room unrest and Lisandro Martínez's commitment to the club. "I have no concerns whatsoever about his commitment. These things happen in football. Mistakes are made at times. His commitment is never in question," the manager stated regarding the Argentine defender.
"The dressing room is in a good place. Perception can be a strange thing—it's easy to spin narratives and imagine all sorts. But the players' commitment to the club, to me, and to each other shouldn't be questioned at all. We need to play better and make better decisions, but the commitment is definitely there," Carrick added.
Carrick maintained that the team's struggles cannot be pinned on a single issue, emphasizing that progress relies on fine-tuning details. "It's never just one thing. Often it comes down to fine margins, and we have to improve in certain areas. We did a lot of good things against Chelsea—it was incredible we went into the break without scoring. We have to dig ourselves out of this. When you're winning, plenty of people can do my job. The key is finding solutions and staying strong. We have to keep pushing, and that won't change my mindset," he explained.
Carrick also provided fitness updates on several key players. Leny Yoro continues to manage a recurring tendon issue, though the manager noted he has looked sharp since returning and has been among the team's standout performers. Luke Shaw has been ruled out of the upcoming fixture, while Marcus Rashford is being evaluated day-to-day. Regarding contract situations for Lisandro Martínez and Bruno Fernandes, Carrick revealed there is no fresh news: "When there's anything finalized, we'll let you know. Right now, there's nothing to add."
