The award was in recognition of their relentless service to the country, as well as their achievements.

According to the Daily Trust, the leaders honoured at the event include General Yakubu Gowon, President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan and President Goodluck Jonathan.

Six past presidents of CAN, Cardinal Dominic Ekandem, Anthony Cardinal Okojie, Dr. Sunday Mbang, Dr. Peter Jasper Akinola, John Cardinal Onaiyekan and Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, were also given recognition.
