Jaden McDaniels has captured headlines after delivering a highly provocative jab at the Denver Nuggets.
As their first-round series intensifies, the Minnesota Timberwolves forward labeled Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Tim Hardaway Jr. as "bad defenders" following their epic 119-114 comeback victory in Game 2.
McDaniels' remarks raised eyebrows due to his direct criticism of the Nuggets, but Gordon remained unfazed.
According to Carmelo Anthony, McDaniels' statement only fuels the rivalry and is something the Timberwolves must back up with their play as the series against the Nuggets progresses.
"That's grown-man talk. You didn't mince words—you called them out by name. You didn't just say the Nuggets can't defend; you named Jamal Murray, Joker, Aaron Gordon, and Tim Hardaway. When you're that passionate about your stance, then anything goes," said the Hall of Famer and Denver legend on NBA Showtime on NBC. "The rivalry between the Nuggets and Wolves already existed, but now it's personal. Joker is sitting there thinking, 'I've got something for you.'"
"The other night, people were joking about him 'getting cooked,' but words like these could elevate him to an even higher level. The question is whether everyone else can match that intensity, because this is war—this is chess. They invaded your house, took Game 2, and now they're full of confidence, in the same mental state as before. Now it's time to justify it. If they don't win Game 3, then the narrative changes. And that message you sent is now echoing everywhere."
This year's first-round series marks the third playoff meeting between the Nuggets and Timberwolves in the last four years.
With the best-of-seven series currently tied at 1-1, McDaniels' viral statements only further heighten anticipation for Game 3 between the Nuggets and Wolves, scheduled for Thursday.
