A CAF official has lost his life in Abuja due to the stampede after the Super Eagles game against Ghana.

Dr Joseph Kabungo the Doping Officer assigned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana is reportedly dead.

According to several reports, Kabungo died on Tuesday, March 29 at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Reports state that his death was a result of the violence that erupted after the Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

Usher Komugisha a Ugandan journalist stated on Twitter that Dr. Kabungo was seriously beaten and injured by Nigerian fans who were not happy with the result.

The message on her Twitter account said, “Really sad that Zambian doctor Joseph Kabungo who was working as the CAF/FIFA Medical Officer at the Nigeria v Ghana game in Abuja yesterday was beaten by fans until he lost his consciousness. There were efforts to save his life but he didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,”
