President urged to grant financial autonomy to Judiciary

Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been urged to grant total financial autonomy to the Judiciary. The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) made the call in Abuja, adding that the move would give a boast to the anti corruption crusade championed by his administration.

At the end of its National Executive Council  (NEC) meeting held at Labour House, JUSUN said total financial autonomy to the judiciary would sanitise the system. In a communique jointly signed by the President, Comrade Marwan Mustapha and General Secretary, Comrade Isaiah ‎Adetola, JUSUN slammed both Federal and States government for delaying payment of salaries of its members.

JUSUN however called on states governors to respect the judgement of Federal High Court Abuja in favour of the union on the financial autonomy of the Judiciary.   The union who declared it's total support for the fight against corruption, however lamented a situation where a State governor will use government mechenaries ‎and harass it's members without any crime.  "We commend the present administration on the on-going war against corruption. Also, we urge relevant agencies to ensure prosecution of those who looted public funds without fear or favour," the communique reads.
