President directs aviation officials to start process for national airline

Buhari also ordered the take-over of Nigeria’s airspace from Ghana, which has been managing it since 1945.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed aviation officials in Nigeria to look into the possibility of starting a national carrier for the country.

The President gave the directives on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, during a meeting with senior executives of the Ministry of Aviation led by Permanent Secretary, Binta Bello.

“The President is quite concerned about lack of national carrier for now and he has directed the ministry to look into the possibility of having a national carrier as soon as possible,” Bello told journalists after the meeting.

Nigeria’s first national carrier, “Nigeria Airways” was founded in 1958 and, according to Wikipedia, ceased operations in 2003.
