Arsenal has been dealt a significant blow with the news that new signing Bruno Guimarães is set to be sidelined for several weeks.
The Brazilian midfielder was substituted at halftime during the Community Shield clash against Manchester City and was later seen with ice on his thigh. In yesterday's press conference, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta stated he was still unsure if Guimarães would be fit for today's match, despite his recovery progressing well.
Guimarães arrived at the Emirates this summer following a £75 million transfer from Newcastle. However, the early stages of his Arsenal career could now be interrupted by an untimely injury setback.
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph reported: “I'm hearing Bruno Guimarães has picked up a nasty injury early in his Arsenal career. Not sure yet how long he'll be out for, but I'm told it could be a few weeks.”
Arsenal will be hoping the issue isn't as severe as initially feared, with the exact duration of Guimarães' potential absence yet to be officially confirmed.
