Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has issued an apology to the club's supporters over his previous remarks about wanting to leave the club.
During the World Cup, the Argentine international voiced his desire to move to Barcelona, but a deal never materialised due to Atletico's firm refusal to sell him to the Blaugrana.
"First and foremost, I want to apologise to our fans for what I said during the World Cup. The timing and the way I expressed myself were a mistake. I completely understand their frustration—I would be angry too if I were in their position, considering the incredible support I've always received," Alvarez said following last night's 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna, sealed by his solitary goal.
"In recent weeks, they have shown me incredible affection. Now I need to focus on being at my best. They've had my back all along, and my duty is to work hard because we have some major challenges ahead," the Argentine international added.
