Abducted Chibok Girls Released, Defence HQ retracts statement

It was earlier reported that an unidentified number of the abducted Chibok girls have been released by Boko Haram sect. The Defence Headquarters however says it is no longer sure if the girls were rescued.

UPDATE: The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has reportedly retracted an earlier statement alledgely confirming the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls today, September 23, 2014.

According to reports, a number of the Chibok girls who were kidnapped from Borno state on April 14, 2014 have been released.

A top military source confirmed to Premium Times that two buses filled with the released girls were driven into the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri today, September 23, 2014.

The girls’ release is also said to have been confirmed by the spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade.

Olukolade reportedly stated that the exercise is still ongoing and an official statement would soon be released.
