The former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro has lauded the recent ceasefire agreement reached between the Federal Government and terrorist sect, Boko Haram stating that it is real.
The genuineness of the agreement has been called into question due to the fact that attacks are still being carried out by the sect and the President of the Civil Rights Congress, Shehu Sani went further to describe the ceasefire as a scam.
Obanikoro however stated that the deal is genuine and that President Goodluck Jonathan is deserving of commendation for the move.
The former minister made the declarations during his send-off ceremony in Abuja.
He said:
“I’m excited; things like this don’t come easy; a lot of sleepless nights have gone into it; we must salute Mr President for the courage and the conviction that we must have peace rather than have war, and also all the presidential lieutenants who have assisted in facilitating the process that we are about to get into.
I am very sure that with what President Jonathan is doing on security, terrorism will soon become history in Nigeria.”
“…We have conquered the issue of militancy in the Niger/Delta, the Boko Haram issue will also be a thing of the past”.
Obanikoro resigned his ministerial position to enable him contest in the upcoming 2015 governorship elections in Lagos.
