Blunt Message from England! Premier League Chief Calls for Infantino's Exit and Football's Salvation

The Chief Executive of the English Premier League has sharply criticized FIFA President Gianni Infantino and advocated for the end of his tenure at the helm of the organization. Richard Masters also hopes that a suitable candidate will emerge to bring about positive changes within the organization.

According to Masters, FIFA "pressed the self-destruct button" with its failed plan to sell stakes in future World Cups to investors. He believes the repercussions of this move should be considered when charting the future direction of football.

"FIFA should never consider selling stakes in the World Cup. It is a non-profit organization and should manage this competition for the benefit of football's future," Masters told the BBC.

He therefore welcomed the decision by the English Football Association (FA) not to support Infantino in the FIFA presidential elections in March 2027. The 56-year-old Swiss faces significant criticism, particularly from Europe, Asia, and North and Central America. Masters also hopes that a "unity candidate" will emerge who can bring about positive changes within the organization.

Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and plans to run for re-election. He currently has no challengers, with the deadline for nominations expiring on November 18. "Such a unity candidate should have FIFA reform on their agenda, and perhaps also a reform of the president's role and their relationship with other structures," Masters emphasized.
