Senegal to win comfortably against Zimbabwe

Senegal begin their charge for their first ever Africa Cup of Nations title by taking on Zimbabwe today. Senegal are unarguably the favourites in this fixture. The Lions of Teranga have twice defeated the Warriors of Zimbabwe and should do so for a third time. The Zimbabweans are expected to sit back and defend knowing the quality the Senegalese team possess.

The Lions went unbeaten throughout the World Cup qualification series, winning five of their six games, scoring 15 goals and conceding four. Senegal is ranked 20th in the world and will rely on the magic of their potent attacking line featuring Sadio Mane, Keita Balde and Ismaila Sarr, alongside their solid spine, to defeat this Zimbabwe side and have a chance of winning their first ever major trophy.

Guinea to scale through tight affair

Guinea and Malawi will both be looking to get off to winning starts in the AFCON when they lock horns at the Kouekong Stadium on Sunday. Guinea have never won the competition, with their best finish being as silver medallists in 1976. They have a solid chance of another deep run after being drawn into a group in which they are clearly the second-strongest side.

They will therefore be targeting continental glory in this edition of the competition, which might be a stretch, but they should have a good run in the competition.

Guinea's midfielder Naby Keita (L) will miss the rest of the African Cup of Nations

Malawi are 48 places below the Guineans and are clearly the underdogs in this contest. After failing to participate in the last five editions of the competition, Malawi were desperate to secure a ticket this time around and did so having picked up 10 points during the qualifiers. We back the Guineans, who have more experience at this level and should pick up the points.

Betting Tips

  • Guinea win or draw and under 3.5 goals looks a safe bet @ 1.30 odds on BetKing
  • The Multi Correct score option (1:0/2:0/2:1) looks the way to go @ 2.18 odds on BetKing
