While the football world is still mourning the death of Cameroon international
Brazilian footballer, Bernardo Ribeiro collapsed on the field on Sunday, May 8 while playing in a friendly for Friburguense.
He was pronounced dead later in the hospital.
Ribeiro began his career with the Brazilain giants Flamengo, who he joined in 1999 when he was 9 years old. He was with the team until 2011 when he moved Skenderbeu Korce in Albania.
He also made eight appearances during a one-season spell with Australian A-League side, Newcastle Jets. He followed that up with further transfers to Finnish side IFK Mariehamn and then back to Brazil with Inter de Lages, last year.
Mariehamn took to their Facebook page to send their condolences to their family. “We have received sad news today. Bernardo Ribeiro, who played for IFK during 2013 and 2014, has suddenly deceased after a game in Brasil with his club Friburguense.
“Our thoughts are with his wife Katie and his relatives. Thanks for everything and rest in peace Bernardo.”
