Benfica winger Tiago Gouveia is currently in Turkey, undergoing medical and physical examinations ahead of signing a loan deal with Gençlerbirligi, who finished 13th in the last Turkish league season.
“Niasse and Tiago [Gouveia] are in Ankara and have already passed their medicals. If there are no issues, negotiations with the club will be finalized,” coach Metin Diyadin confirmed to the Turkish press on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old attacker, a product of Benfica's academy, is not part of the club's plans and had already stopped training with the squad. He was almost set to join Atlas, but the deal fell through due to last-minute demands from the player's agents, as explained by the Mexican club at the time.
Tiago Gouveia had been under observation by Lens, Sevilla, and another Turkish club in recent weeks, but all indications point to him joining Gençlerbirligi.
He will depart Benfica having made 41 appearances, scoring five goals and providing eight assists. Last season, he played on loan for French side Nice.
